With the right economic reforms, US trade and investment assistance to the private sector will increase to unlock development potential in Bangladesh.

This was stated in a meeting with the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AMCHAM) leaders of the US delegation visiting Dhaka at a hotel in the capital on Saturday (September 14).

After the meeting, the US Embassy in Dhaka said in a message that US businesses are playing a positive role in various sectors of Bangladesh’s economy, from energy security to data centers and transportation. If the right economic reforms are done, the American private sector can help open the door to Bangladesh’s development potential through trade and investment.

Earlier, a six-member delegation led by US Department of Revenue and Finance’s Assistant Undersecretary for International Finance Brent Neyman arrived in Dhaka on Saturday morning for a three-day visit. Donald Lu, Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs of the US State Department, came in the afternoon.

The visit will focus on the urgent needs of the Interim government of Bangladesh and how the United States can support economic cooperation and reforms in the future of the two countries’ relationship.

According to diplomatic sources in Dhaka and Washington, Bangladesh is on the verge of transition from the political crisis. There is a great opportunity to move forward with the reform process under the leadership of Dr. Muhammad Yunus. Along with this, during the tenure of the current government of Bangladesh, the way to advance the relationship between the two countries has been opened. As a result, the United States is interested in extending cooperation in economic and democratic reforms wherever there is an opportunity for cooperation.
