Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has asked the United Nations to withdraw all troops serving as peacekeepers in Lebanon from border areas. He said this in a video message given in English on Sunday (October 13).

Earlier yesterday, 40 countries including Bangladesh issued a statement condemning the attack by the occupying Israel on the peacekeepers. After that, Netanyahu asked these peacekeepers to withdraw.

Netanyahu said, “I tell UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, now is the time to withdraw UNIFIL (peacekeepers) troops from Hizbullah positions and war zones.” The Israeli Defense Forces have repeatedly made this request. But every time it was rejected. The aim of which is to provide security to Hezbollah terrorists through human shields.”
He further said, “Honorable Secretary General, immediately remove the peacekeepers from the danger zone. Now is the time to move them quickly. By refusing to withdraw the troops, you are holding them hostage to Hezbollah. This is putting the lives of both peacekeepers and our troops at risk.”
In the last few days, the occupation forces of Israel have attacked the positions of the peacekeepers several times. Several peacekeepers were injured. Western countries condemned Israel after the peacekeepers were injured.

Netanyahu, accused of war crimes, has expressed regret over the injuries to UN troops in Lebanon. He said, “I am sorry for the injury to the peacekeepers. Israel is trying to do everything to prevent such incidents from happening again. But the easiest and most obvious way to do this is to ensure that they are evacuated from the risk areas.”
