Dozens of civilians have been killed in an attack by the paramilitary Rapid Support Force (RSF) in Sudan’s Gezira state. Thousands of people have been displaced from the region.
Al Jazeera and the Associated Press News Agency (AP) reported this Saturday (October 26) citing a local network of volunteer rescuers.
A doctors’ union and a youth group said the RSF attacked several villages and towns in the east-central state of Gezira, the AP reported. During this time they looted and vandalized public and private property and killed dozens of people.
Meanwhile, in a report, Al Jazeera reported that RSF has been attacking Al-Sireha village in Gezira state for the past few days. 50 people were killed in this attack in one day.
Locals’ network told AFP that more than half a hundred people were killed in Friday’s attack.
On the other hand, Sudan News (Sudankhbar) website reported that 124 people have been killed and 200 injured so far in the ISF attack.
This African country has been engaged in civil war since April last year. Up to 150,000 people have been killed in 18 months of fighting between the RSF and the army, and the UN estimates that the conflict has displaced one-fifth of Sudan’s population.
