Bangladesh was on a mission to retain the title. Coach Peter Butler’s students showed it with the goals of Monika Chakma and Rituparna Chakma. Defeated hosts Nepal 2-1 in the final to win the title.
In the second minute, Pooja Rana missed and Tahura Khatun got the ball. His shot was deflected off the crossbar. Nepal goalkeeper Anjila blocked his header in the return attempt. Bangladesh goalkeeper Rupana Chakmao made a small mistake in the next minute. However, before Savitra Bhandari could use the opportunity, Rupana took over. Both mistakes showed that the nerves of the final had settled well on both teams.
The crossbar stood in the way of Bangladesh’s goal early on. In the 10th minute, Nepal’s goal attempt was blocked by the crossbar. Amisha Karki’s shot from outside the box hits the post. Bangladesh was saved from conceding the goal.
In the 18th minute of the match, Amrita Jaishi was shown a yellow card for fouling Monika Chakma. After four minutes, Bangladesh tried to score with a long-range shot. But Masura Parveen’s shot was easily controlled by Nepal goalkeeper Anjila.
Amisha Karki had a chance in the 27th minute. But Bangladesh handles the defense issue well. In the 33rd minute, a chance came in front of Bangladesh outside the Nepal box. However, the visitors could not make use of that opportunity. Maria Manda’s shot goes over the bar. Late in the first half, Nepal had another chance, but this time a mistake by Sabita on the right wing denied Nepal the goal, as she slipped and took possession of Shamsunnah’s senior ball.
In the first half, neither team could capitalize on their chances. As a result, the first 45 minutes ended goalless. All the thrills continue for the next 45 minutes.
Bangladesh went ahead at the beginning of the second half. After a great build-up by the visitors in the 52nd minute, Savita Rana Magar’s ball fell to Monika Chakma’s feet. His goal put the defending champions ahead.
But he could not hold the lead Bangladesh. Hosts Nepal responded in the 55th minute. Masura Parveen made a mistake in intercepting Preeti Rai’s pass. The ball fell at Amisha Karki’s feet. The Nepali forward found the goalkeeper alone and easily put the ball into the net.
Since then, Nepal has come the closest to success in trying to move forward. Rupana Chakma kept Bangladesh in the match by blocking multiple shots from Savitra Bhandari and Amisha Karkid.
In the 76th minute, Nepal goalkeeper Anjila saved a great shot by Maria Manda with one hand. However, in the 80th minute, the Nepalese goalkeeper was unable to do so. The hosts made several mistakes in that goal. Substitute Anita Besnet was tasked with marking Rituparna Chakma from Shamsunnahar senior’s throw-in. He couldn’t do it, Rituparna took a shot from a very empty space. His shot hit Anzilla’s hands and into the net. Immediately the 13000 spectators present at Dashrath Rangshala were stunned.
Bangladesh’s title celebration is confirmed at the final whistle. On the other hand, for the sixth time in a row, Nepal lost their dreams in the final of the Women’s Saf.
