The court sentenced a mother and three sons to life imprisonment in the murder case of farmer Habibur Rahman due to a dispute over land in Tarakanda, Mymensingh. At this time each was fined 50 thousand taka.
Judge Farhana Ferdous of the Special Sessions Judge Court gave the verdict on Wednesday (November 13) at noon. The convicts are: Karim Uddin’s wife Hajera Khatun and her three sons Qutub Uddin, Chaib Uddin and Shahab Uddin of Maskanda village in Tarakanda.
According to court sources, on the night of November 14, 2006, Habibur Rahman of Maskanda village of Tarakanda upazila left his house at the call of nature. At that time, Habibur Rahman died on the spot when his opponents hit him hard with native weapons due to a dispute over land.
The next day, Tarabanu, the mother of the deceased Habibur, filed a case with Tarakanda police station naming 9 people as the plaintiff. After a long trial, Hazera Khatun and her three sons were sentenced to life imprisonment today. Apart from this, one person was acquitted and the rest were sentenced to one year rigorous imprisonment.
