Magisterial powers of armed forces extended for another 2 months

The interim government has extended the magisterial powers of army, navy and air force officers across the country including the capital for another 60 days.

This decision was announced in a notification of the Ministry of Public Administration on November 15.

It is said that army captains and equivalent commissioned officers working in the Bangladesh Armed Forces have been given the power of special executive magistrates throughout Bangladesh. This power is vested for 60 days from the date of notification.

It is also known that the powers of the Executive Magistrate under Sections 64, 65, 83, 84, 86, 95(2), 100, 105, 107, 109, 110, 126, 127, 128, 130, 133 and 142 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898 is given

Earlier, on September 17, army officers were given magisterial powers to control the law and order situation in the country. A few days later, this power was given to Navy and Air Force officers from September 30.

It is to be noted that when clashes spread across the country including Dhaka around the quota reform movement, the then government deployed the army and imposed a curfew on the night of July 19.

After that, the Awami League government fell on August 5 in a student uprising. Three days later, on August 8, the Nobel Peace Prize winning economist Dr. An interim government was formed under the leadership of Muhammad Yunus. In the current situation, the army is still deployed across the country.
